| Police Department - Crime Watch |
What is Neighborhood Crime Watch? It is a cooperative effort between the community and the High Springs Police Department (HSPD) to educate the community on law enforcement tactics, efforts and issues, as well as to inform the HSPD of issues and concerns the community may have to ultimately form a strong bond and to increase communication and reduce crime in our community. The High Springs Police Department recognizes that the responsibility for making your home and family safe from crime extends beyond routine law enforcement patrol. This is why we believe in Neighborhood Crime Watch and its cooperative effort between the citizens of High Springs and the High Springs Police Department. Residential burglary and theft are major crimes that can be effectively combated with neighborhood awareness. It is difficult for the law enforcement to effectively cover all residential areas and it is difficult for law enforcement to completely familiarize themselves with all the persons, vehicles and surroundings in your area. Concerned citizens and neighborhood crime watches can become the eyes and ears of their police department by immediately reporting suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities. This duty does not include the apprehension of any suspects. Apprehension is still the responsibility of law enforcement. Remember, an informed, alert, and active community is absolutely necessary to win the war on crime. Why Neighborhood Crime Watch Works:Most law enforcement agencies have limited staffing and are constantly dealing with budget reductions and cost saving measures. It is from your cooperation as a resident that will greatly help to overcome these issues. Through the watchful eyes and ears of the citizens observing suspicious activities within their own neighborhoods, crime can and will be reduced.
