The Office of the City Attorney
Pursuant to the City Charter, the City Attorney is the legal advisor to the City of High Springs, attends all City Commission meetings and performs such professional duties as may be required by law or by the Commission. By agreement with the City, Thomas G. DePeter, appointed by the City Commission effective September 10, 2007, acts as City Attorney as an independent contractor. He is a graduate of the University of Florida, College of Law and was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1991. His duties include: attending City Commission meetings, Plan Board meetings and Code Enforcement Board meetings; reviewing City contracts; consulting with the City Manager and City staff regarding legal issues involving the City; preparing and reviewing various resolutions and ordinances to be considered by the City Commission; coordinating services of additional contract attorneys in specialized areas of law that may be retained by the City; meeting with citizens referred to the City Attorney by City staff; and conducting periodic training of board members and other staff. He also performs such other legal work as may be requested by the City Commission. Mr. DePeter's office is located in High Springs at 23327 NW CR 236, Suite 80, High Springs, Florida (Spring Hill Professional Center).
