![]() Welcome to the City of High Springs, whether it is in person or on our web page. The web page gives you the structure of our local government and the services offered, including our own police and fire protection, water and waste water system that is presently being expanded. We also have numerous recreation fields for individual or team play. The City of High Springs, founded in the 1890’s, was built upon the foundation of hard work and enterprise around the railroad and agriculture. It has seen the rise and fall of those industries, but still maintained its foundation together with the friendliness of its citizens, which also reflects the attitude of past generations. It is with this background that the city will move forward, mindful of the past but not dwelling in it. The city will use fiscal restraint being mindful that it is the taxpayer’s money. The city, while supporting its business community by insuring regulation is fair and reasonable, will help attract new industry and commercial enterprises so as to diversify its economy and by doing so improve the lives of its citizens. Should you visit our fair city in person, which we hope you will do, you will find a great selection of stores for goods, antiques, gifts, etc. We have restaurants to cater to most palates, a movie theater and a community theater. Our A rated local school covers K. through 8th grade. Construction of a new K through 3 school in High Springs will begin this year. Santa Fe High School (grades 9 -12) which is combined with Alachua area schools is just 5 miles away. Higher education is obtained at Santa Fe College and University of Florida, both in Gainesville, where further cultural and sporting activities are regularly held. Of course Gainesville, only 20 miles away, is home to some of the best medical facilities in the nation. The local residents of High Springs for generations have enjoyed the surrounding natural springs and rivers for recreation. Many of these rivers and springs attract national and worldwide recognition. Please be assured that should you come to High Springs electronically, in person, as a resident or as a new business, you will be welcomed by myself, the commission and by the wonderful people of this city. Very Sincerely, William J. Coughlin Mayor |
